Made It on the flight by the skin of my teeth

Went to the brief this morning, and I made the roll call for the flight. We will be sequestered at noon today, go through customs then put in a sterile area until we fly, so no contact unfortunately. Hopefully I will see everyone on Saturday, as soon as I hit ATL I will start making calls. Can't wait.

In Kuwait

We just landed about 2 hours ago it's 0300 right now and I am pretty wiped out. Just enough time to find the computer center and grab a shower before my mext brief at 0700. There is a chance I might make the flight tonight leaving here 2200 local and would put me in Atlanta early morning on the 1st. Sure would be great to be home for the superbowl. I might not have a chance to let you know if I catch that flight or not so that is best case scenario. Things have gone pretty well so far except for the long days and no sleep. Can't wait to see you!

Kuwait

Just completed the first briefing of the day and managed to get manifested for a flight out tonight. I have a show time of 1630 for a 2200 flight. If all things go well I should be in Kuwait sometime tomorrow morning. Hopefully the weather will hold for the flight tonight but if anything changes I will let you know. Can't wait to get home!!!!!!!!

No Flights

I can tell already that this is going to be a long a painful process. No flights tomorrow have to wait until 2030 tomorrow to see if there will be any flights for the 28th. All this just to get out of Herat, I'm having bad luck already, can't even get started on the first leg of the trip. Hopefully I will get out of here in the next few days. I'm pretty exhausted, going to get some sleep, regular work day tomorrow then anxiously wait for 2030 to get flight info for Wednesday. Say your prayers everyone.

Delayed Allready

I had to muster this morning at OH MY God dark thirty and I woke up to Rain COLD rain and much clouds. So they kept us in all of our battle gear waiting around to get the word about flights. After sitting around for what seemed like an eternity they graciously at 0730 told us to go get something to eat, that all flights today are delayed so I have to muster back in 2 1/2 hours and we will try it again. Hope today is the day I start my trip, say some prayers and wish me luck.

Freedom

Well so begins my journey home, I have to muster in the morning in full battle rattle to catch a convoy to the airport. Then hopefully catch one of 2 flights tomorrow trying not to get bumped for ammo, mail, supplies, and other people ultimately more important than me.  So hopefully the trip is good and make it the first leg tomorrow, then no more than a day or two at that stop and on to the big clearing house of Kuwait. My journey can take as little as 3 days and up to as much as 14 days to get home depending on flights and weather. So to all my friends and family wish me luck and hopefully I will see and talk to you all soon enough.

Shanny

Hey Babe,  I would be honored to come speak at your school. I really appreciate that you mentioned what I am doing to your class and your teachers. We need to make sure that people understand what we are doing in Afghanistan and that we are making a difference. I miss you and I love you very much. Hopefully I will see you in a few weeks.

Hey Dad

Hi daddy it's Shannon. I wanted to know if you would mind coming into my school for a day during your break. In social studies we were asked which two countries are changing their government, and of course since you told me about the Taliban taking over the Afghan government, I told my teacher that you taught me that. So I had an idea that you could come in to talk about how Afghanistan is different from America. My teacher said that would be great if you wanted to do it. So i was hoping you could. I miss you and I love you!
